The talk will assess the potential pitfalls and strategies for increasing the use of market mechanisms, focusing on the related cases of forest certification systems.

Cashore argues that stakeholders and government officials must place greater attention not only on the “direct” effects of market mechanisms, but on their synergistic potential to interact with government efforts across multiple scales.
